Alpha 1 Microglobulin: A Potentially Paradoxical Anti-Oxidant Agent
Alpha 1 microglobulin is a low molecular weight heme binding antioxidant protein with interesting, and potentially important, clinical applications. However, much remains to be learned about its in vivo effects. This invited review raises a number of physiologic issues regarding this compound as it pertains to clinical use.
متن کاملAlpha-1-microglobulin: an indicator protein for renal tubular function.
A comparison of urinary alpha 1-microglobulin concentrations to the behaviour of other indicators of renal tubular disorders, beta 2-microglobulin, retinol-binding protein and N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) has been made. In acute tubular disorders the concentrations of urinary beta 2M and RBP are highly correlated (r = 0.89) but this is less marked for alpha 1M and beta 2M (r = 0.55) an...
متن کاملevidence for clinical use of honey in wound healing as an anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory anti-oxidant and anti-viral agent: a review
context to provide an updated review of published literature on the anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of honey. evidence acquisition cinahl, biomed central, cochrane library, medline and embase data bases and reference lists were used to find randomized controlled trials and review articles. randomized controlled trials using honey with a comparator were reviewed, al...
متن کاملA simple colorimetric assay to evaluate the pharmaceuticals for alpha-tocopherol and its anti-oxidant potential
A new colorimetric method is proposed to determine α-tocopherol and its anti-oxidant activity by monitoring the ability of α-tocopherol to cause quantitative reduction of ferric ions. The method, based on Trinder reaction, includes incubating 1 μmol of ferric chloride in presence of 0 and 15 through 120 μmoles of α-tocopherol followed by detection of the iron (III) with standard mass of salicyl...
متن کاملAlpha-1 microglobulin: a marker for early detection of tubular disorders in diabetic nephropathy.
BACKGROUND Tubular damage as suggested by tubular proteinuria is a recognised feature of glomerulonephritis. The objectives of the study were to compare the level of alpha-microglobulin in normal and diabetic patients, and also to find out whether the level of alpha-1 microglobulin could become a laboratory marker for tubulo-interstitial damage in diabetic nephropathy. METHODS Twenty-nine reg...
